Music Berries has recently established three new ensembles aimed at students between the age of seven and 18. Junior Jazz Berries 4.30-5.30pm. This ensemble is open to instrumentalists who are grade one to three in standard. The aim is to introduce young performers to jazz and improvisation within an ensemble. No experience of jazz is necessary just a basic knowledge of your instrument and an enthusiasm to learn.
Saxberry Orchestra 5.30-6.30pm It is hoped that this group will become one of the first saxophone orchestras for school pupils in the country. Inspiration for this group came from a recent performance at the World Sax Congress at which 100 saxophonists joined forces to create an orchestra which truly resembled the sound produced by a symphony orchestra. We do not audition members. As a guide players of around grade five standard will cope with the music.
Jazz Berry Orchestra 7-8.15pm This group is for more advanced musicians and aims to perform regularly in concerts and events such as Music for Youth. As a guide players should be grade six and above although no experience of jazz and improvisation is necessary, a sense of commitment and keen aptitude to learn is desirable. We are always pleased to hear from woodwind or brass players looking for a band in the area, and would currently also like to hear from any pianist who would like to join our Jazz orchestra.
